Cooper, A Healthcare Hero at Mildura Base Public Hospital
In the heart of Mildura, amidst the bustling corridors of the Mildura Base Public Hospital, Cooper stands out with his dedication and enthusiasm. At just 21 years old, Cooper has secured a meaningful role as a food services assistant in a health care setting.
Cooper’s journey to employment wasn’t without its challenges, but with the support of are-able and the determination to succeed, he found his place in the hospital’s dynamic environment. Key figures in his success were Trista Rickard, Cooper’s dedicated Employment Consultant, and Joshua Hickey, Team Leader at are-able, both of whom played pivotal roles in securing his employment.
“Cooper joined are-able, and from the very beginning, we knew he had immense potential,” Trista recounts. “We helped him secure a role at Sun Assist as a workplace assistant, where he excelled for 26 weeks. However, when the role became limited in scope, we worked tirelessly to find him a position where he could truly thrive.”
That opportunity arose at the Mildura Base Public Hospital, where Cooper embraced his role. As a food services assistant, Cooper’s responsibilities include delivering meals to patients and assisting with food preparation in the kitchen. His attention to detail and infectious positivity have made him an invaluable member of the hospital team.
But Cooper’s impact extends beyond his job description. Nominated for the Heart Values Hero award multiple times, Cooper embodies the hospital’s core values of happiness, empathy, accountability, respect, and teamwork. His dedication to these principles has earned him not only recognition but also the admiration of his colleagues.
“Cooper has been nominated for the Heart Values Hero award four times in a row and won it on the fifth time,” Trista proudly shares. “His commitment to upholding the values of the hospital is truly remarkable.”
For Cooper, gaining employment has been life changing. Not only has he been able to utilise the skills acquired through certifications and qualifications, but he has also found a supportive workplace that fosters his growth and development.
Reflecting on his journey, Cooper expresses gratitude for the opportunities that have come his way. “I’m honoured to be a part of the Mildura Base Public Hospital team,” he says. “Every day, I come to work with a sense of purpose, knowing that I’m making a difference in the lives of patients and contributing to the well-being of our community.”
As Cooper continues to inspire those around him, his story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of meaningful employment. In the halls of the Mildura Base Public Hospital, Cooper is not just an employee — he’s a Heart Values Hero, lighting up the lives of those he encounters with his infectious positivity and unwavering dedication.
