are-able Maryborough Celebrates Debra’s Inspiring Journey to Employment

Brace yourself for the incredible story of Debra, a resilient individual who secured a life-changing opportunity after more than two decades out of the workforce.

Debra, a spirited 63-year-old woman, faced numerous challenges due to her intellectual disability. However, with the unwavering support of her dedicated Employment Consultant, Kenny O’Connor, and the exceptional resources provided by are-able Maryborough, Debra embarked on an extraordinary journey towards meaningful employment.

When Debra first came to are-able as a voluntary Disability Employment Services (DES) client, her goal was to find an opportunity that would utilise her unique skills and provide a sense of purpose. Recognising the importance of finding the right fit, Kenny sought out an employer who would appreciate Debra’s abilities and create a supportive work environment.

Kenny found the perfect match at the renowned Maryborough Highland Society. Debra joined their team as a valuable employee ready to make her mark in the workforce.

Debra’s role at the Highland Society centres around her passion for service. But her dedication and enthusiasm go far beyond her assigned tasks; Debra’s unwavering commitment to excellence has made her an integral part of the Highland Society team, and she eagerly takes on additional shifts, always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed.

The success of Debra’s employment journey can be attributed to the relationship formed between herself, her employer, and Employment Consultant, Kenny. The Maryborough Highland Society has created an inclusive and supportive work environment that celebrates Debra’s strengths and recognises her potential. Through this empowering atmosphere, Debra has blossomed, exceeding expectations, and achieving milestones that once seemed out of reach.

Debra’s life has been transformed by her newfound employment. As she approaches her one-year anniversary in her role, are-able is incredibly proud of Debra’s extraordinary achievements, celebrating her resilience and determination.

Debra’s story serves as a powerful testament to the potential within every individual when provided with the right support and opportunities. By embracing diversity and fostering inclusive workplaces, we can create a world where everyone can thrive and achieve their dreams.

In the words of Debra herself, “Finding this job has given me a renewed sense of purpose and a chance to showcase my abilities. I am grateful for the support I’ve received and the opportunities that have come my way.”

Kenny, Debra’s Employment Consultant, expressed his admiration, saying, “Debra’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Her dedication and positive attitude have made her a true asset to the Highland Society. I’m honoured to have been a part of her success.”
