Early childhood education course pays off for Maryborough educator
Are-able’s flexible training delivery model and diligence of its trainers has helped a Maryborough childhood educator develop her skills, qualifications and, ultimately, workplace standing, whilst doing the work she loves.
Maryborough-based Liesbeth commenced her Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care in March 2016, while working full-time at a local child care centre.
While she had successfully completed her Cert III in Early Childhood Education and Care with another provider, the post-graduation offer of full time work was incompatible with further study with that provider.
“Attending classes was going to be difficult to manage with my full time work, which I got as soon as I had finished my Cert III,” Liesbeth explained.
Are-able’s ECEC trainer Deb Opie found a way to accommodate Liesbeth’s desire to continue her skill and knowledge development, whilst accommodating her new position. “Because Liesbeth worked more than 15 hours aw eek, we were able to incorporate her on-the-job skill development into her training,” Deb explained. “The hours of work being done in the industry meant Liesbeth didn’t need to attend classes – this face-to-face contact with me as her trainer was accommodated via fortnightly visits to her workplace, as well as as-needed assistance via phone or email in between.”
Liesbeth said this approach allowed her to study at her own pace and apply her learning as she worked. “It worked exceptionally well; Deb would bring my new work books with her and take my completed ones away. If ever I finished a work book before a visit, Deb would email me the next one so I always had something to go on with.
“She was always prompt in her response to any questions I had either via email or text and during our visits she would explain in person anything else that I needed help with. “
Liesbeth said this support helped her to progress swiftly through her Diploma, eventually earning her a promotion to second-in-charge at her workplace, and immense satisfaction in her new career.
