Employer, Clinton Baulch Automotive, Finds Next Superstar Employee Through are-able Warrnambool
When Clinton Baulch Automotive hired Martin Paton, the only possible clash was going to be their taste in footy teams, demonstrated by the fact that Martin is never seen without his beloved Richmond Tigers cap on.
Martin joined Warrnambool are-able in July 2019, and Employment Consultant Gavin Sell was keen to find the friendly candidate the right position.
“Martin has such a friendly and bubbly attitude; I knew that we just needed to find him the right role and he would excel,” said Gavin.
When Martin joined are-able he was experiencing poor mental health but had a positive attitude, plenty of initiative and was eager to gain employment. Warrnambool Business Development Officer Angela Hewett was working with local car dealership Clinton Baulch Automotive, and knew they were looking for a new staff member to clean cars. The business also wanted someone who had high-level communication skills, could work independently and was a good fit for the team.
Angela and Gavin quickly identified that Martin’s personality and skills made him the perfect candidate to join the Clinton Baluch Automotive team. An interview was set up and Martin was hired for the role. Are-able also assisted Martin with gaining his Working With Children and Police Checks. Equipped with the right disability training and employment services Warrnambool, Martin was confidently able to step into a new position.
Six months later, Martin is thriving in his role. Initially his job was simply washing cars, but his responsibilities have now extended to include cleaning the showroom and the rest of the dealership. COVID-19 cleaning practices means Martin is keeping busy, and his role within the organisation and the community is more important than ever.
Clinton Baulch has found Martin to be a valuable addition to the team.
“We are so happy how the role has evolved for Martin and incredibly impressed by his work ethic. He’s always early and gives 100%. We love having Martin as part of the team.”
“The only downside would be that he’s a Tigers supporter,” he laughed.
Gavin still tries to catch up with Martin at his work for fortnightly appointments.
“I like to just check in and see how Martin is going and if he needs anything such support, uniform or additional skills training. Martin is so independent that he won’t ask for anything but it’s important that he and Clinton feel supported by are-able. They know if they need anything, or if circumstances change then I’m here to support them.”
Since beginning his role with Clinton Baluch automotive Martin is enjoying the benefits that come with employment, financial stability, purpose and connection.
Martin is very appreciative of the ongoing support from are-able and Clinton Baluch Motor Group. He feels the position has lead to an improvement with his confidence, mental health and made him more outgoing.
“If you’re struggling with poor mental health, it’s not silly to ask for help,” he said.
