Nathan Builds Confidence in Hospitality with On-the-Job Support from are-able
Nathan, a participant from Mildura, began his journey with are-able’s School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) and Finding and Keeping a Job (FKJ) program in April 2025. Nathan was eager to build the skills, confidence and experience needed to take his next step into employment.
From the beginning, Nathan showed strong commitment. He attended consistently, took part in sessions with a positive attitude, and quickly developed a clear interest in hospitality. He enjoyed opportunities to learn in group settings, take part in industry visits, and gain a better understanding of different workplaces and employer expectations.
With support from are-able, Nathan built his confidence, communication skills and workplace readiness. are-able mentors worked closely with him to understand his goals and support his pathway into work. This included connecting with local employers in Mildura and providing practical support as Nathan explored hospitality as a future career pathway.
Nathan has now secured employment at The Workingman’s Club Mildura, a strong outcome that reflects his commitment, growth and determination.
As part of his employment journey, Nathan is receiving on-the-job support from are-able. This means an are-able team member attends work with Nathan on Fridays, helping him build confidence, develop workplace routines and continue strengthening his skills in a real work environment. This support is an important part of helping Nathan settle into his role and succeed at work.
Nathan is the first participant in Mildura to receive this type of on-the-job support through are-able, making this a meaningful step for both Nathan and the local team. It also highlights the value of practical, person-centred support for participants and employers.
are-able is proud to work alongside Nathan and employers like The Workingman’s Club Mildura to create inclusive workplaces and meaningful employment pathways in the local community.
