Pheonix’s Journey to Independence and New Skills with Parent Pathways

Pheonix joined our Parent Pathways Program in Mildura after a friend’s recommendation, and she has embraced every opportunity since. When her mentor, Reney Hutchins, first met Pheonix, it was clear she was highly motivated to pursue online study and work towards obtaining her probationary driving licence. This initial meeting set the stage for a journey focused on building independence and new skills, demonstrating Pheonix’s strong commitment to her future.

Through the Parent Pathways program, we were able to provide Pheonix with comprehensive support tailored to her needs. This included ongoing engagement support vouchers, along with non-vocational vouchers that helped cover essential expenses such as groceries, easing some of the daily pressures. Before she gained her licence, Reney also played a vital role by providing transport for Pheonix and her son to and from Parent Pathways appointments, ensuring she could consistently access the guidance and resources she needed without barriers.

A significant step towards Pheonix’s independence was securing her driving licence. We assisted her in transferring a vehicle she already owned into her name, which was a crucial practical step for her to complete her learner driver hours and meet the requirements for her probationary licence. As she approached the required hours, Pheonix wisely requested one final driving lesson with Licensed to Drive for reassurance, ensuring she felt fully prepared. With confidence, she then attended VicRoads in her own vehicle, successfully passed her probationary licence test, and gained a profound sense of independence and mobility. This achievement has opened up a world of possibilities for her and her family.

Building on this remarkable success, Pheonix enrolled in online study with Australian Beauty School in December 2025. She is currently developing valuable skills in waxing and working towards a qualification in the field, creating a clear pathway for her future career. Her dedication to learning and her proactive approach to building a brighter future are truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud to walk alongside people like Pheonix as they build skills, confidence, and pathways to meaningful work, making a real impact in their lives and our community.
