Mildura Hospital Tour Opens Doors to New Career Opportunities for are-able Participants
Our participants from Mildura recently embarked on an insightful behind-the-scenes tour of Mildura Base Public Hospital, an experience designed to broaden their understanding of the many career paths available within a large organisation. This visit offered a unique opportunity to see the hospital’s operations beyond the medical areas, revealing a wide array of essential jobs.
The tour was expertly guided by Stef Deskovic, the hospital’s Workplace Trainer and Career Advisor. Stef engaged with our group, discussing various departments such as hospitality, grounds and maintenance, and environmental services. She clearly explained the responsibilities within these roles and highlighted their crucial importance in ensuring the hospital runs smoothly, safely, and cleanly every day. It was a fantastic way for our participants to learn about jobs they might not have previously considered.
Stef also emphasised that many vital roles within a hospital are not directly health or medical related, opening our participants’ eyes to a broader spectrum of career options. The visit significantly helped our participants build confidence, encouraging them to ask questions and explore new job and work experience opportunities that align with their skills and interests. They particularly enjoyed seeing areas not usually accessible to the public and were very keen to discuss work experience possibilities with Stef afterwards.
Overall, this hospital tour was a positive and highly informative experience. It provided our participants with a clearer understanding of the diverse local career landscape and encouraged them to think expansively about their future employment. We are proud to support people to build skills, confidence, and pathways to meaningful work, and this tour was a wonderful step in that journey.
