Local Organisations Unite to Create Employment Pathways Through Industry Experience

are-able is proud to partner with RIST (Rural Industries Skill Training) and Ultra Build in Hamilton to create meaningful opportunities for people preparing for further study and employment.

As part of RIST’s Introduction to Welding short course, participants were given the opportunity to visit Ultra Build and gain firsthand insight into steel fabrication within the construction industry. During the visit, participants toured the facility, observed advanced fabrication techniques and learned how welding and steel fabrication skills are applied across residential, commercial and industrial projects.

The industry experience provided a valuable connection between classroom learning and real-world employment opportunities. Participants have been developing practical welding skills while building a bag trolley from scratch, alongside strengthening their language, literacy, numeracy, communication and employability skills.

are-able Employment Mentor Sally Harris said the visit helped participants recognise the practical value of their training while building confidence for future employment.

“This course is creating opportunities for participants to build confidence as they prepare for further study and employment,”

Sally said.

“It gives them the chance to demonstrate their skills when speaking with employers and to develop a portfolio showcasing how they have applied problem-solving, communication, teamwork, planning, organisation and personal responsibility.”

The collaboration between are-able, RIST and Ultra Build demonstrates the positive outcomes that can be achieved when education providers, community organisations and local employers work together. By providing participants with exposure to real workplaces and career pathways, these partnerships help break down barriers to employment and create opportunities for people to reach their goals.
