A new pathway to work in Colac

A new pathway to work in Colac

In Colac, are-able supported a 29-year-old man who had been out of work for a long time and felt unsure about his next step. With limited recent work experience, no current driver’s licence, and transport challenges, employment felt out of reach.

are-able worked alongside him with practical, tailored support to help rebuild confidence and open new options, including:

  • support to work through the steps to regain his driver’s licence

  • employability skills training, including CV support and interview preparation

  • first aid training and support to complete his RSA

  • connecting with local employers and presenting his strengths through reverse marketing

With the right supports in place, he secured a role as a labourer and general yard person with a local Colac business.

He told are-able, “I love this job so much, I didn’t think I’d get here. I like going to work every day.”

are-able continues to provide post-placement support to help him settle into the role, build on his strengths, and keep moving forward at work.

This story is a reminder that when barriers are met with steady, local support, people can build skills, confidence, and a clearer pathway to work and independence.

Together, we create opportunity.
