Bacchus Marsh NDIS Participants Explore Exciting Career Paths at Amazon
We were delighted to arrange an insightful industry visit for our NDIS Finding and Keeping a Job participants from Bacchus Marsh. Accompanied by our dedicated mentors, Jaimee Downes and Leigh Keast, five participants had the unique opportunity to explore the Amazon Dispatch Centre, gaining firsthand experience of a large-scale workplace and discovering potential employment pathways. This initiative highlights our commitment to providing practical, real-world experiences that build confidence and open doors to meaningful work.
During the visit, our participants learned about the entire process of how stock arrives, is scanned, recorded, and stored within the facility. They saw the advanced machinery used to ensure a safe working environment and understood the intricate pick, pack, and dispatch processes. The state-of-the-art facility impressed everyone with its cutting-edge efficiency, where every item is weighed, measured, and stored precisely. We also learned about the various shift options available and the benefits of working for one of the world’s largest private employers, offering a comprehensive look at what a career there could entail.
The experience was incredibly impactful, with participants asking many interesting questions and expressing their amazement at seeing the inner workings of the fulfilment centre. For some, the visit sparked a keen interest in pursuing a job at Amazon, and we were pleased to facilitate a group discussion with the Site HR Manager after the tour to explore these possibilities further. This kind of direct engagement with employers is vital, as we work alongside them to build inclusive workplaces and create genuine opportunities for people in our community.
As one participant shared, “I loved the tour, it was very cool to see the inside operations of Amazon. The tour guide spoke very clearly and was more than happy to answer any questions she could. I love the tour so much that I am attending it again with someone who I know will love it too! Thanks to are-able and Amazon for providing me this opportunity.”
Every step forward is worth celebrating, and we are proud to stand beside people as they work toward their goals. Through local support and real impact, we are dedicated to helping individuals build skills, confidence, and clear pathways to employment, fostering a community where everyone can thrive.
