Fast Track Your Career Brings Opportunity to Portland
In November the Portland Golf Club came alive with energy and opportunity as local job seekers, employers, and community partners gathered for the Fast Track Your Career event, a day dedicated to connection, confidence, and career exploration.
Delivered in partnership with are-able, Sureway, Axis Employment, and Workforce Australia Local Jobs, the event was a strong example of what can be achieved when local organisations come together with a shared purpose. Participants from Workforce Australia, Transition to Work, and Parent Pathways all attended, making it a truly collaborative community effort.
The day kicked off with an inspiring presentation from guest speaker Paul Watkins, who shared his personal career journey and practical insights into navigating the world of work. His session was engaging, honest, and motivating, giving participants a real sense of what’s possible with persistence and the right support.
A highlight of the event was the Employer Elevator Pitch session, featuring local businesses including Prince Engineering, Respect, KFC, The Port of Portland, and several others. Employers introduced their organisations, discussed the types of roles they offer, and showcased the wide variety of job opportunities available across the Portland region.
After the presentations, job seekers had the chance to speak directly with employers, hand in resumes, ask questions, and build the beginnings of genuine employment pathways. For many, it was their first time engaging face-to-face with multiple employers in one place, making it an invaluable experience.
Fast Track Your Career highlighted the power of collaboration, bringing together service providers, training organisations, and employers to support local people into meaningful work. The positive outcomes and strong engagement on the day show just how valuable these community-driven employment events are for the Portland region.
This event was funded through Workforce Australia Local Jobs. Workforce Australia Local Jobs is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
