Jemma’s Journey to Independence Through Parent Pathways
When Jemma joined the Parent Pathways program in Mildura, she set herself a clear goal, to gain her driver’s licence before her baby arrived. At the time, she was pregnant and determined to achieve her independence, wanting the freedom to move around on her own terms and not have to rely on others for everyday needs.
With the support of Parent Pathways Mentor Reney Hutchins, Jemma was enrolled in driving lessons through Fifth Gear Driving School Sunraysia, working closely with instructor Fiona and her team to build confidence behind the wheel.
Although Jemma gave birth earlier than expected, she didn’t let that stop her. Her determination and resilience saw her return to complete her final lessons soon after, and she proudly obtained her Probationary Licence (Green P’s).
Now a devoted mother of two, Jemma uses her licence daily to attend appointments, participate in community events, and manage family life with confidence and independence. Parent Pathways continues to support her through flexible gift card assistance, providing additional help when needed.
Jemma’s story is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through perseverance and the right support, turning a goal into reality and creating lasting independence for her and her family.
