Racing Towards Resilience: Participants Shine at Mt Gambier Amazing Race

Three are-able participants from Mt Gambier put their teamwork, resilience, and communication skills to the test in the annual Amazing Race hosted by Headspace.

Led by Employment Preparation and Engagement Consultant Matt Davidson, participants from the Finding and Keeping a Job program—Tyson, Josh, and Tinisha—took on the physically and mentally challenging race with energy and enthusiasm.

The event, designed by Headspace to promote mental health, collaboration, and endurance, brought together individuals and community groups in a spirit of positivity and connection.

Although are-able is not formally partnered with Headspace, the organisations share a common goal: supporting young people to thrive. That shared purpose was on full display during the Amazing Race, where Tyson, Josh, and Tinisha worked together seamlessly communicating effectively, playing to each other’s strengths, and showing great perseverance.

Their efforts paid off with an impressive 2nd place finish in the Open Age category. The team was thrilled with their result and celebrated with free pizza vouchers as a well-deserved reward.

The event not only highlighted the abilities of the Finding and Keeping a Job participants but also strengthened their confidence, teamwork skills, and connection to the broader Mt Gambier community.

“Watching these young people push themselves and support each other was incredible,” said Matt Davidson. “They were so proud of what they accomplished—and they should be!”
