Waggin’ Good Time – Exploring potential jobs for school leavers

Have you always wondered what it would be like to have a career working with animals? To spend your day surrounds by dogs and cats?

Reginna Vasi, a Shepparton are-able Employment Preparation and Engagement Consultant set out to uncover this information for are-able School Leavers Employment Supports participants.

Four participants visited the Nathalia Boarding Kennels and Cattery to learn about what skills and tasks are needed to work with animals. The staff were incredibly generous with their time and shared with the group the various tasks and skills required to work with animals and for this style of workplace.

“We walked through the yards and got to meet all the animals; it was a really enjoyable and informative visit” said Reginna reflecting on the day.

The visit to the Dog Kennels and Cattery was part of are-able SLES industry visits. Industry visits allow participants an opportunity to experience various workplaces and to gain an insight into the roles and skills required for that style of employment.

It provides an opportunity to ask questions and a chance to see what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ and to uncover employment opportunities and industries they may not have considered or being aware of previously.
