Nir’s volunteering journey with Foodshare Bendigo

Nir is a valued participant in our employment assistance program, with a clear interest in hands-on work like gardening and mowing. He has a strong desire to find a meaningful job that aligns with his skills and aspirations. We are dedicated to supporting Nir as he explores various career pathways, and he has expressed a particular interest in working towards delivery driving roles in the future.

To help Nir build foundational skills and confidence for his career journey, we connected him with Foodshare Bendigo, a wonderful local organisation. Nir is now actively volunteering there, gaining invaluable experience. His initial focus is to understand how the warehouse shifts operate, contributing directly to the vital work Foodshare does in distributing food to those in need within the community. This hands-on experience is proving to be a crucial step in his development, offering practical insights into a working environment.

In consultation with Nir’s supports, we have observed that he truly thrives and shines when the right structures and opportunities are in place. These practical tasks and the chance to build workplace skills are significantly helping Nir develop confidence and knowledge in several key areas. This includes general workplace practices, effective teamwork, and essential food-handling safety protocols. These experiences are also strengthening Nir’s understanding of safe practices when working with food in a busy warehouse environment, preparing him thoroughly for future employment.
