Building a Pathway to a Rewarding Career in Education Support
We recently had the privilege of supporting a dedicated participant in Mildura through our Parent Pathways program, helping them navigate their journey towards meaningful employment. Initially, they sought our assistance to find suitable work, and our mentor worked closely with them to refine their resume and craft compelling cover letters. We also provided practical support during weekly appointments, assisting with job applications across various platforms.
Despite their best efforts, the participant faced the common challenge of repeated rejections and limited interview opportunities. This led them to make a proactive decision: to enhance their employment prospects through further study. They enrolled in two valuable courses, a Certificate IV in Leisure and Health and a Certificate IV in Ageing Support. Recognising their commitment, our Parent Pathways program was proud to support this goal by funding essential study tools, including a laptop, printer, keyboard, and mouse dongle, as well as covering the accredited course fees.
Our support extended beyond direct funding. We facilitated a referral to Reconnect, a valued partner who further assisted by providing a new desk, a Microsoft Office licence, and other crucial study resources. To ensure the participant could study comfortably and confidently, we also funded prescription glasses, appropriate clothing for interviews and their future workplace, and an NDIS Screening Check, which was a requirement for their course placement. Additionally, engagement vouchers were provided, offering flexibility and choice in how they could be used to support their journey.
This comprehensive and tailored approach helped the participant maintain a positive outlook and stay focused on their goals. We are delighted to share that they have now secured suitable employment as an Education Support Teacher, working school hours, which perfectly aligns with their needs. They have since transitioned into our Post Placement Support phase, where we continue to offer regular check-ins and phone appointments, ensuring they feel fully supported as they settle into their new and rewarding role. Together, we create opportunity, and we are incredibly proud to see the real impact of local support in action.
