SLES participants explore local opportunities at The Garden of Hope
Our School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) participants in Mildura recently took part in an industry visit to The Garden of Hope, a local not-for-profit community space.
During the visit, participants learned about how the venue operates and the variety of work that keeps it running day to day. Owner Debbie Halliwell shared how she has developed the 16-acre site, transforming a disused area into a welcoming place for the community, with native plants, art and spaces to relax and connect.
The group also discussed potential work experience opportunities at The Garden of Hope, including roles in the small kiosk and supporting the ongoing care and upkeep of the gardens. Experiences like this help people build their understanding of different work environments, explore what they enjoy, and identify the skills they want to develop.
We are proud to support SLES participants to connect with local employers and community organisations. By creating opportunities to learn in real workplaces, we help people take practical steps towards their employment goals.
