Hands-on Learning Builds Skills and Confidence in Horsham

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care students in Horsham are bringing their learning to life as they progress through their course. Having commenced in July, the group is now working on their fourth unit and have recently taken part in an engaging activity designed to apply their knowledge in a practical way.

Students were challenged to design a fictional long day care service, from identifying the staff required to run it, through to outlining the necessary qualifications, roles, and responsibilities. They then worked together to develop a service philosophy and even draft job advertisements for key roles.

Trainer and Assessor Cindy Hammond explained that this type of activity gives students a chance to apply their theoretical knowledge in a fun and practical context. “It’s a way to step away from presentations and bookwork, while also encouraging teamwork and helping the group bond as peers,” Cindy said.

Alongside their classroom learning, students are also gaining real-world experience on placement across centres in Horsham and the Wimmera. These opportunities allow them to put their skills into practice while building confidence in their chosen career path.

This combination of hands-on learning, placement, and strong peer connections is helping the Horsham Certificate III ECEC class develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the industry, and they’re only just getting started.
